Why not exactly follow what Celani did?
I have a question as to why you guys are not following exactly what Celani did? If you want to successfully replicate what Celani achieved would it not make more sense to follow his exact steps? From what I'm reading your experiment has deviated considerably from Celani's. Or, again, am I missing something here?

Why not exactly follow what Celani did?
The European cell is doing just that. Celani said he didn't want us to just repeat what he had done - he wanted us to take the science forward. Since he said he was moving to a quartz cell next - we thought we should do that and that is what was done on the US cell. However, as soon as NIcolas had done the IR thermalisation calculations for the various glass options (which was a few weeks back) - we decided that for the EU cell we would order a custom blown borosilicate piece for that cell in order to be very close to Celani's set up - this is on its way.
Additionally - Celani is now ver actively collaborating with us and so we are working to get a step by step in order to nail the repeatability.
We are very happy with the Loading on first attempt - which happened just a week back.
Frustratingly, his is not just like purchasing a table lamp, plugging it in and flicking the switch. Ideally at the end of all this squishing of bugs and gotchas we will have a cell and method that will be that easy.

I've already mentioned this on the blog, but I would like to highlight that another point where your current replication is sensibly different than Celani's original experiments is the starting hydrogen pressure: so far you have used 3.5 bar at most, while, according to data in his ICCF17 presentation, Celani uses starting pressures up to 7.5 bar. However he somewhat counterbalances this with a lower input power - 48W at most.
Better IR thermalization, more constant wire temperature along its length (yours has a strong gradient), higher hydrogen pressure, might be the key to success.
I wouldn't personally want to stand up near a heated 9+bar (at working temperature) pressurized glass reactor, though.

Why not exactly follow what Celani did?
Hi Umino,
Yes - we are working through these things. Our cell can also handle higher pressures than we are taking it too right now. We felt it was prudent to test at lower pressures first, minimise risk of a setback due to early catastrophic failure this way.

Why not exactly follow what Celani did?
Hi there Bob, i see that you've been working on a Step by step for the Eu cell (over 8 months ago) and i was hoping you could share that piece of information with me, i am very interested in replicating this project and will post all my results.

Hi Dylan,
Sorry for not contacting you sooner, we have been in recovery from ICCF18!
At the conference, we got Francesco Celani to agree in principal to sharing the exact cell design, he just has to run it past his engineer, how long this will take is not certain as I know he has a lot to do after getting back to Italy. I think it would be great to work on that basis.
We will be making available systems to control, data acquire and broadcast - if you can get yourself into a position to supply live data then we can even represent you having access to Celani wire.
