Using nickel wire normally sold for e-cigarettes and a *GlowStick* inspired construction - this fast reactor build used LiAlH4 as the Hydrogen source. Of course, a real, or home made (more later on that) Celani wire could be used.

@ Robert greenyer just checked resistance on a similar fire brick I have one measurement was 259 k ohms but mostly 8 to 11 m ohms might want to insulate it

@ Robert greenyer should you put some kind of electrical insulation under the metal ends of the reactor? could be shorting across bricks taking away from your final measurements. if it was it couldn't be much I guess you could just mega ohm resistance test the brick to check. still would be nice to insulate for safety of touching the brick.

Something interesting could be happening at the interface between the nickel wire and the inner alumina tube with the interaction of LiAlH4, which you mentioned it creeps on the surfaces of that tube. I would inspect the wire carefully and perhaps even have SEM analysis performed on it when you're done, if you think you're really seeing excess heat.
