Experiment Intro - Powder Test Cells

Before HUG took on the Celani Replication, they were experimenting with nano-powder and hydrogen and saw intriguing but inconclusive results.  Those apparati are sitting idle and can be restarted.  MFMP has put the call out for donations to be able to use those test cells to perform new tests.  A HUG staff member will be coordinating the crowdsourced development of an experiment plan through the MFMP web site.

Hardware:

Below is a sketch of the basic test cell consisting of a stainless steel chamber with a long neck, a gas supply tube off the neck, and a ceramic probe going down into the center of the chamber.  The probe contains two thermocouples and a copper coil that allows for electrical current to pass from probe to shell, or to make a small magnetic field.  Outside the chamber are 4 thermocouples and an electric band heater.  The whole chamber is then enclosed in a mineral wool insulation jacket.  The apparatus has been tested to 300+ psi and 400+C, as well as 10^-5 torr vacuum.  We have several in various states of readiness to be employed.

The graph below shows one exciting set of data from one of these cells with 20nm nickel powder and hydrogen. The tan line is the pressure.  The red is the shell temperature.  The violet is the internal temperature.  All are on the same scale (C, PSI)  The pressure spontaneously cycled.  As it slowed, I upped the heater power, giving the large rise in the middle.  That caused more erratic cycling.  After that, we have never seen this phenomenon again.
